MinSU i-BIBES visits Malaysia for international benchmarking on startup ecosystem

To enhance its startup incubation initiatives, MinSU IBIBES embarked on an international benchmarking to Malaysia from June 16 to 20, 2025.

To enhance its startup incubation initiatives, the Mindoro State University – Innovative Business Incubator for Biosystems Solutions (MinSU IBIBES) embarked on an international benchmarking to Malaysia from June 16 to 20, 2025.

The five-day study visit provided the MinSU delegation with the opportunity to learn from five of Malaysia’s leading institutions in innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup development.

The MinSU IBIBES delegation included Engr. Randy A. Joco, Project Lead and TBI Manager, Engr. Christian B. Hernandez, Project Management Lead, Dr. Jerrel S. Reyes, Portfolio Management Officer, Ms. Arlhet O. Atienza, Academic Lead, and Ms. Flordemae V. Ines, Industry Lead.

During their benchmarking, the team visited five premier institutions that are at the forefront of Malaysia’s startup ecosystem, namely, MRANTI (Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation), SEED.Lab, a social innovation hub co-founded by PETRONAS and Tata Consultancy Services, BizPod at Taylor's University, which nurtures student entrepreneurs, ASB Hive of the Asia School of Business, a hub for entrepreneurial development, andAsia Pacific University (APU), known for its dynamic startup incubation programs

“These visits allowed us to explore a variety of operational frameworks and gain strategic insights into how these institutions manage technology transfer, innovation culture, and entrepreneur support systems. We are honored to be given the opportunity to visit these renowned institutions in Malaysia and engage in meaningful dialogue with their innovative leaders ,” said Engr. Joco.

He also said that the said benchmarking activity will help enrich their incubation program to better support the local startups in Mindoro and the greater MIMAROPA region.

By learning from international best practices, MinSU IBIBES aims to develop localized yet globally competitive strategies to support emerging entrepreneurs and build a resilient, innovation-driven economy for the region.

The initiative is part of MinSU’s commitment to expanding its Technopreneurship and Innovation agenda under the HEIRIT (Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship) Program of DOST-PCIEERD.
