The Month of May celebrates the richness of Philippine culture , arts and heritage as institutions across the country take part in National Heritage Month reaffirming the importance of heritage, identity, and deep cultural consciousness among Filipinos, particularly in preserving the nation’s diverse cultural heritage.
In line with this observance, Mindoro State University (MinSU) – Main Campus spearheaded by College of Business Management in collaboration with the Office of Student Services and Engagement and the Office of Culture, Heritage and Arts held a Literature Seminar on May 4, 2026 at its University Auditorium as part of the culmination of National Literature Month and the kick off celebration of National Heritage Month, gathering members of various student organizations from the MinSU Main Campus.
With the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future,” the activity highlighted literature’s role in shaping cultural identity and sustaining the country’s rich traditions and heritage.
Ms. Princess Karen D. Hernandez, Instructor I, served as resource person during the seminar. She discussed the significance of literature as a mirror of society and a tool for understanding cultural roots, encouraging students to engage more deeply with literary works and to produce writings that capture local experiences and Filipino identity.
The seminar formed part of MinSU’s continuing initiatives to strengthen appreciation for the arts, heritage, and humanities within the academic community, fostering greater cultural awareness among students.
In his closing message, Mr. Ross Christian C. Manuel, Deputy Director for Culture, Heritage and Arts, urged participants to actively contribute to cultural preservation efforts.
“Let us contribute to preserving our shared heritage and strengthening our identity for future generations,” he said.
Dr. Jerome Jef M. Zamora, Director for Student Services and Engagement, said activities such as the seminar help instill cultural consciousness and encourage the youth to take an active role in nation-building through culture, arts, and heritage preservation.
The National Heritage Month celebration is anchored on Presidential Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003, which emphasizes the importance of promoting Filipino culture, arts, and traditions as part of national development. (jdtdc)
