A symbol of excellence, heritage, and institutional pride is now legally protected.
Advancing its commitment to strengthening institutional identity and intellectual property protection, Mindoro State University has officially secured Certificates of Trademark Registration for its official university logo from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).
The registration, granted on April 18, 2026, provides the University with exclusive legal protection over the use of its official emblem for a period of ten (10) years, valid until April 18, 2036.
Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, pushed for the registration of the University logo as a significant step toward safeguarding the institution’s identity, reputation, and intellectual property rights amid the evolving landscape of higher education and institutional branding.
According to Dr. Apostol, the trademark registration formally recognizes the institution’s ownership of its official seal and visual identity, preventing unauthorized reproduction, misuse, and commercial exploitation of the University’s branding.
She further emphasized that protecting the official logo is part of the University’s broader commitment to institutional integrity, excellence, and sustainability.
“The official registration of the University logo symbolizes not only legal protection but also the preservation of the institution’s heritage, credibility, and identity,” Dr. Apostol added.
The IPOPHL certification grants Mindoro State University exclusive rights to use the registered mark in official documents, publications, academic materials, university merchandise, and other institutional representations covered under trademark law.
The trademark applications were facilitated by the MinSU Innovative Business Incubator for Biosystems Solutions (i-BIBES) under the Office of Innovation of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Technology, and Extension (OVPRITE), with the guidance and technical assistance of the Department of Science and Technology–Oriental Mindoro through Project ISIP (Integrated System for Intellectual Property Registration), whose platform significantly streamlined the registration process.
This milestone reflects the collective dedication and shared vision of the University’s past and present leadership, the committee behind the crafting and design of the official logo, alongside the unwavering commitment of its faculty, staff, partners, alumni, and the entire MinSU community in building a stronger, future-ready, and innovation-driven institution.
Founded to provide accessible and high-quality education for Mindoreños and beyond, MinSU continues to expand its initiatives in instruction, research, innovation, extension, and internationalization. The successful trademark registration of its official logo marks another milestone in the University’s pursuit of institutional advancement and transformative leadership.
With the registration now in effect, University officials are expected to further promote the proper and responsible use of the official logo across all campuses, offices, publications, and university-related activities. (jdtdc)
