The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) recognized Mindoro State University with the Kabalikat Newbie Institution Award on June 29, 2026, strengthening the University’s role in driving innovation in MIMAROPA.
During the recently held DOST-PCIEERD 16th Anniversary Celebration at Fairmont Hotel, Makati City, the University exhibited its growing contribution as a new institutional partner in advancing innovation and technology-based development, as it received the award.
The distinction highlights the success of the MinSU i-BIBES (Innovative Business Incubator for Biosystems Solutions), the university’s flagship technology business incubation program that helps innovators, researchers, and startup entrepreneurs turn ideas into practical enterprises that respond to local and regional needs. Through the Kabalikat Newbie Institution Award, DOST-PCIEERD acknowledged MinSU for its strong debut as a PCIEERD partner through the MinSU i-BIBES Technology Business Incubator, with its early milestones including 22 startups and engaging more than 3,600 participants and promoting grassroots entrepreneurship in the MIMAROPA region.
Presented under the theme “Emerging Technologies for a Future-Ready Philippines: Driving Innovation, Enabling Progress, and Transforming the Nation,” the Kabalikat Awards honor institutions that have shown strong commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation through meaningful partnerships with DOST-PCIEERD.
The latest recognition further positions MinSU as a key contributor to the country’s innovation agenda, reinforcing its commitment to developing technology-driven solutions, empowering local entrepreneurs, and elevating MIMAROPA’s innovation ecosystem on the national stage.
Receiving the award was Engr. Randy A. Joco, Director for Innovation and TBI Manager, alongside the MinSU i-BIBES team.
