Capitalizing on already present resources in their community, Hanunuo Mangyan community in Mansalay delved into indigenous textile production through Project RaMIT (Revitalizing and Modernization of Indigenous Textile of Hanunuo Community), aiming to build the foundation of Ramit weaving in their community.
The two-day training was held on September 10-11, 2026 at Sitio Galang, Brgy. Panaytayan, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro, with 100 Hanunuo Mangyan participants attending the activity.
The first day focused on Natural Resource Management and Product Costing Training, where Ms. Kaycee H. Nuestro, one of the program implementers, presented her topic on Natural Resource Management & Sustainable Cotton Farming, focusing on the already present native cotton (katutubong bulak) in their community which they can use to start their production.
After the discussion on production, Ms. Rhea B. de Guzman, another program implementer, helped the attendees understand project costing through Project Costing Training and Workshop, providing insights on financial management and giving them IEC materials which they can use as a guide.
On the second day, Ms. Daileen May J. Srechomphoo, fellow project implementer, discussed Customer Service Skills Enhancement Training to the Hanunuo Mangyan ramit weavers, to help strengthen their understanding on customer relations and how to present themselves better in front of other people.
Throughout the training, the Hanunuo Mangyan attendees developed a deeper sense of understanding in their native cotton, with them raising the need for preservation and proper utilization of the resource.
Project RaMIT, headed by Dr. Catherine M. Campo, forms part of the Awati TI-KAPE Community Development Program, a five-year extension program led by Ms. Zusette C. Aplaon, Program Leader, aimed to capacitate the Mangyan community through livelihood training initiatives. (kpic)
