More than 100 residents of Barangay Bagong Buhay II in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro received assistance held on August 4, 2025 through Balikatan 2025, a relief initiative spearheaded by Mindoro State University (MinSU) through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (OVPRDE).
The program forms part of the university’s ongoing efforts to extend help and hope to communities severely affected by Typhoon Emong, which struck the province on July 24, 2025.
Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President personally led the distribution of relief goods, alongside former Faculty Regent Dr. Jesse T. Zamora, faculty members, and university staff. The team delivered grocery items, medicines, clothing, food packs, and school supplies for children in need.
“Ang MinSU ay kapitbahay at kapitpuso ninyo. Kaya kahit gaano pa ‘yan kalayo, pupuntahan po namin kayo,” said Dr. Apostol in her message.
Among those who received aid were Nanay Elsie Pascual, Merlina dela Rosa, and Marilyn Ariston, all of whom faced great challenges following the typhoon. Despite their difficulties, they expressed sincere gratitude for the support provided.
Barangay Chairman Loreto Pascual also expressed appreciation to the MinSU community and its partner stakeholders. “Napakalaking bagay po ang ginawa ng MinSU para sa aming barangay. Maraming salamat sa malasakit at pagtulong,” said Chairman Pascual.
In addition to the relief activity in Barangay Bagong Buhay II, MinSU also carried out similar operations in its Calapan City and Bongabong campuses, reaching more families affected by the calamity across different areas.
Balikatan 2025 is one of the university’s efforts to support communities affected by disasters. With help from partner stakeholders and the united efforts of the MinSU community, the program showed the university’s dedication to serving the public beyond education.
