Over 200 bags of blood were collected during the Mindoro State University’s (MinSU) annual bloodletting activity, held from October 28–30, 2025, across its campuses. The initiative, organized through the Medical Services Unit and the Women, Gender, and Development (WGD) Office, in partnership with the Oriental Mindoro Blood Council, stands as a continuing commitment to saving lives and promoting community health throughout the province.
According to Ms. Marianne B. Garcia, Nurse at MinSU Main Campus, the initiative is part of the University’s sustained effort to support the province’s blood supply needs.
“This program is our way of helping the Oriental Mindoro Blood Council gather blood for our fellow citizens in need,” said Ms. Garcia. “We hold this every year not only to extend help to others but also because donating blood is beneficial to our health.”
Among the many donors was Mr. Edgar Viernes, a MinSU employee for 24 years, who has been a consistent participant in the University’s bloodletting drives.
“Gusto talaga nating makatulong sa mga nangangailangan. Kahit sa ganitong simpleng paraan, nakakatulong tayo sa iba at nakapagliligtas pa ng buhay,” he shared. “Iba rin ang pakiramdam at may benepisyo ito sa kalusugan kapag nagdo-donate ka ng dugo,” Mr. Viernes added, noting that he sometimes even travels to other areas just to donate blood.
The activity drew enthusiastic participation not only from MinSU faculty, staff, and students, but also from residents of nearby barangays and communities, reflecting the strong sense of solidarity and volunteerism that defines the University community. To show appreciation for the donors’ generosity, the University prepared lugaw, balut, and bottled water, simple tokens for a truly meaningful act of kindness.
In total, MinSU collected 204 bags of blood, broken down as follows:
These life-saving donations will go a long way in supporting patients and hospitals across Oriental Mindoro, further strengthening the province’s blood supply network.
Through this annual endeavor, MinSU continues to live out its commitment to public service, compassion, and community care, which indeed proves once again that the gift of life is the greatest act of love.
