Despite the busy end-of-year academic schedule, Mindoro State University (MinSU) continued its community outreach efforts this Christmas season through gift-giving and health education activities for Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
Instead of hosting campus-based holiday events, MinSU, together with its Extension Office, StC4ID Project, Medical Unit, and faculty volunteers, personally visited the IP communities of Canaan on December 18, 2024 and Sitio Sigkuran, Villa Cerveza on December 20, 2024. The team conducted a basic health seminar focused on hygiene, wellness, and disease prevention to help strengthen community health awareness.
Free health consultations were also provided by the MinSU Medical Unit, along with necessary medicines to address common health concerns in the area.
More than this, MinSU volunteers distributed relief packages containing staple food items, hygiene essentials, and personal care products. Donated clothing and toys were also given to families and children, bringing joy during the Christmas season.
โChristmas is a season of sharing and compassion. Through this outreach, we hope to support the welfare of our IP communities and show that they are valued members of our broader MinSU community,โ Dr. Jesse T. Zamora, Professor and Faculty Regent of MinSU.
The activity was organized in partnership with Pampamayanang Mangyan Ugnayan Inc. (PMUI), and supported by faculty from the College of Agriculture and Allied Fields, College of Business Management, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Computer Studies.
