After nearly eleven months since the groundbreaking ceremony on January 30, 2025, Mindoro State University (MinSU) formally inaugurated the MinSU Calapan Campus Manmade Lake and Development Park and received its official turnover from the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro in a ceremony held today, December 12, at the MinSU Calapan Campus.
Situated in front of the campus, the existing manmade lake has long served as a familiar landmark for students and visitors. Through the generous funding and steadfast support of the Provincial Government under Governor Humerlito “Bonz” A. Dolor, this once modest body of water has been transformed into a revitalized eco-park designed to promote sustainability, learning, recreation, and community engagement.
The inauguration marks the completion of a visionary project aimed at creating a dynamic green space within the university - one that blends natural beauty with functional design. The development features a refurbished lake, landscaped pathways, a scenic bridge, shaded rest areas, and designated zones for academic, cultural, and social activities. The park further strengthens MinSU’s commitment to environmental stewardship while contributing to the province’s growing tourism potential.
The program began with a blessing officiated by Rev. Fr. William Abas, followed by the ceremonial ribbon cutting led by Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, Gov. Dolor, and University Key Officials.
In her message, Pres. Apostol expressed profound gratitude to the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro and all stakeholders whose collective support made the project possible. She also thanked students, faculty and staff who led the decoration of the manmade lake.
Meanwhile, in his address, Governor Dolor emphasized that commitment is key to the success of the project and reaffirmed the provincial government’s ongoing support for MinSU initiatives. During the program, MinSU presented a Plaque of Appreciation to Governor Dolor, recognizing his instrumental role in bringing the park to fruition.
Following the inauguration, the Manmade Lake shone brighter than ever with the simultaneous lighting of beautiful parol and Christmas decorations. To officially launch the Tanglaw 2025, President Apostol and Governor Dolor pressed the button to illuminate the park, which also marks the start of Paskong Pamilya sa MinSU. This event was organized by the Future Farmers of the Philippines Collegiate Chapter (FFPCC) Calapan City Campus in partnership with the MinSU administration and various colleges of the campus.
University and provincial government officials including Vice Governor CA Jojo Perez, faculty, staff, students, and guests joined a commemorative walk-through of the newly developed area, taking in the park’s beauty and the joyful spirit of Christmas.
The MinSU Manmade Lake and Development Park is now officially open to students, faculty, alumni, and visitors, offering a harmonious blend of nature, education, and recreation. Beyond its environmental and aesthetic value, it stands as a symbol of partnership, progress, and shared vision for a greener and stronger MinSU community.
