SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro - “At kapag sinuportahan natin ang isang mag-aaral, hindi lang siya ang ating tinutulungan,” said CHED MIMAROPA Regional Director Prof. Edna Imelda F. Legazpi during her keynote address at the opening of the 2025 MIMAROPA Regional Student Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) Congress on January 15, 2026 at Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC).
Dir. Legazpi stressed that the benefits and impact of educational subsidies extend beyond individual recipients, noting that empowered students contribute to the upliftment of families and communities, ultimately contributing to long-term regional and national development.
The congress, themed “Ka-MIMAROPA sa Bagong Pilipinas: Sama-samang Bubuuin, Sama-samang Babaguhin ang Kinabukasan,” gathers TES student grantees from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the MIMAROPA region. Running until January 16, the two-day event provides a venue for scholars to gain supplementary learning, showcase talents, and build networks aligned with the goals of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act or Republic Act 10931.
The congress includes trainings, conferences, and competitions in photography, filmmaking, and battle of the bands, providing students with practical learning, opportunities to showcase their skills, and avenues for fostering stronger connections among scholarship grantees and coordinators.
Mindoro State University (MinSU) expressed strong support for its scholars by fielding 16 student delegates, accompanied by Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President and five university officials. The University’s participation reflects its commitment to holistic student development, ensuring that TES beneficiaries are provided with opportunities for growth beyond financial assistance.
In his remarks, Dr. Elbert C. Edaniol, OMSC SUC President III, welcomed the delegates and emphasized the value of collaboration and talent development among the region’s youth.
The gathering also drew participation from SUC Presidents and leaders across MIMAROPA with Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, CHED Commissioner as a special guest, underscoring the regional significance of the TES program.
MinSU’s involvement highlights the university’s commitment to empowering students while contributing to the collective growth and unity of MIMAROPA’s young learners.
