When universities come together with a shared purpose, research becomes more than an academic pursuit, it becomes a pathway to social change. Guided by this vision, Mindoro State University (MinSU) and Samar State University (SSU) convened for a coordination meeting on February 9, 2026 in preparation for the 7th International Conference on Poverty and Sustainable Development (IPOVCON 2026).
The conference, which focuses on research-based responses to poverty and sustainable development, is envisioned as a venue for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and international partners to present studies, exchange best practices, and strengthen academic collaboration.
During the meeting, SSU formally invited MinSU to serve as a partner collaborator for the conference. The proposed partnership calls for MinSU’s participation through research paper and poster presentations, conference promotion across official platforms, and support in encouraging wider involvement from Local Government Units, SUCs, and international institutions.
The SSU delegation was composed of Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Vice President for Research and Extension Services; Dr. Florabelle B. Patosa, Executive Director for Extension Services; Dr. Vivian L. Moya, Director for TBI-LAMBAT and IPTBDO; and Mr. Reuben Y. Corrige, Science Research Specialist I.
They were welcomed by Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President together with Dr. Polemer Cuarto, Director for Research and Publication Services; Engr. Randy A. Joco, Director for Innovation; Ms. Elisa M. Agoncillo, Director for Extension Services; Engr. Mark Keylord Onal, Institute Head of the Institute of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering; and Engr. John John M. Bidon.
As IPOVCON 2026 takes shape, the proposed partnership between MinSU and SSU reflects a collective commitment to research that speaks beyond classrooms and conference halls, one that seeks to generate ideas, collaborations, and solutions aimed at building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
