Mindoro State University (MinSU) participated in the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) Philippines First Quarterly Assessment, reaffirming its commitment to regional academic cooperation and digital innovation across the ASEAN community, February 12, 2026.
Representing the University was Ms. Mary Antonette H. Dudas, Head of the Global and Local Partnership Unit of the Office of External Linkages and International Affairs. The delegation was formally welcomed by Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, President of Rizal Technological University (RTU), the host institution of the quarterly engagement.
A key highlight of the program was the update from Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, former CHED Commissioner, who serves as Advisor and Chair of the Passage to ASEAN partnership initiatives and holds a leadership role in the ASEAN AI Council. She presented developments within the network, including the upcoming ASEAN AI Hackathon 2026, which will be set to officially launch on March 24, 2026 with workshop, preliminary round, consultation and virtual pitching to be conducted virtually across participating ASEAN institutions.
Carrying the theme “AI for a Resilient ASEAN: Innovation, Sustainability, and Humanity,” the hackathon will gather undergraduate students from ASEAN member institutions to develop AI-driven solutions addressing climate resilience, public health, smart cities, and AI for education. Its Grand Finale will be held at Duy Tan University in Da Nang, Vietnam, with the official dates to be confirmed.
The event also featured insights from industry and academic leaders. Ms. Abigail O. Leseca of IBM Philippines emphasized the importance of AI skills integration in higher education and highlighted free learning opportunities through IBM SkillsBuild. Meanwhile, Ms. Rhea Luz R. Valbuena of Asia Pacific College underscored the value of micro-credentials in strengthening global employability and industry readiness.
Sealing its sustained partnership within the network, MinSU formally signed its commitment to continue supporting the initiatives of the Passage to ASEAN network, reinforcing its dedication to internationalization, regional integration, and globally competitive education. (marm)
