The Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) program held its Travel Writing and Photography Seminar and Exhibit 2026 last April 16 at the MinSU Main Campus Tourism Bldg., equipping students with essential storytelling skills while showcasing their creative work through a campus-wide exhibit.
The event featured photographer and filmmaker Arden Pimentel Jr., owner of Lights Frame Studio, who led a seminar on visual storytelling in travel photography. He emphasized that compelling images should stand on their own, capturing emotion and narrative without reliance on text, and urged students to move beyond aesthetics and focus on meaning in every shot.
On behalf of the Dean of the College of Business and Management, OIC-Dean Emma Vida R. Liwanag, Ms. Anjanette G. Alot, Instructor I and MMC USG Adviser, recognized the dedication and hard work of the organizing committee and expressed appreciation for the guest speaker’s inspiring lessons.
BSTM Program Chair Ms. Liezel M. Romantico highlighted the role of storytelling in tourism, encouraging students to document journeys that reflect culture, identity, and lived experiences.
The exhibit, themed “Capture Journey through Lens and Words,” featured student works that explored diverse perspectives on travel and heritage. Allyson Grace Bathan, a second-year student, emerged as the top winner with her piece “Where the Bell Speaks Louder Than Words,” a photograph of the Manila Cathedral bell tower that captures its quiet historical resonance.
Closing the program, Ms. Michelle Claveria, Faculty member thanked participants and organizers, citing their collaboration as key to the event’s success.
The seminar and exhibit underscored the importance of storytelling in tourism, preparing students to become effective advocates of culture and destinations through both words and images.
