Some of the most meaningful moments begin around a shared table.

For Filipino families, sharing a meal goes beyond food. It is a chance to catch up, exchange stories and laughter, give thanks, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

This spirit was felt across the Mindoro State University (MinSU) community as it marked Family Day and Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day on September 28, 2026, bringing employees together through shared meals and simple activities.

At the Victoria Campus, the celebration opened with a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Matthew M. Marasigan, followed by a potluck where offices brought food to share.

During the convocation, MinSU President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol invited employees to gather around the table before heading home to their own families.

“Bago tayo umuwi sa kanya-kanyang pamilya, magsasalo-salo muna tayo rito at pagsasaluhan ang mga munting ambag ng bawat isa. Sapagkat ang MinSU ay tahanan din natin - and tayong lahat ang bumubuo sa pamilyang ito,” Dr. Apostol said.

At the Calapan Campus, employees likewise brought food to share and gathered for a simple feast. The celebration continued with a Zumba session at the Administration Building lobby, where employees danced, laughed and enjoyed a break from their usual routines.

The Bongabong Campus held a community lunch at the MBC Mini Hostel, with employees contributing food for the table. What began as a simple meal became an afternoon of conversation and camaraderie.

Across the three campuses, the celebration showed how a shared meal can bring people closer. With everyone contributing what they could, the MinSU community found another reason to sit together, share a meal and celebrate being part of one family.

Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day is observed pursuant to Proclamation No. 60, s. 2018, which declared the last Monday of September every year as a special occasion to promote the importance of family mealtime in strengthening family relationships and fostering closer bonds among family members.
