Staying true to its mission of promoting inclusive and quality education, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of Mindoro State University (MinSU) successfully held a two-day Gender-Sensitive In-Service Training (INSET) for faculty members on July 29–30, 2025, at the MinSU Calapan Campus Audio-Visual Room.

Led by Dean Dr. Wilma R. Lontoc, with support from Dr. Ciedelle P. Salazar, VP for Academic Affairs and Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, the training aimed to equip educators with gender-responsive and modern teaching strategies fit for today’s diverse classrooms.

The event opened with an inspiring keynote from Dr. Carl E. Balita, a well-known educator and CEO of Carl Balita Review Center. He shared innovative ways to design teaching and assessment methods that cater to the unique needs of learners. Dr. Balita emphasized:

  • The importance of aligning lesson objectives, teaching strategies, and assessment tasks
  • Embracing adult learning principles, reflective teaching, and differentiated instruction
  • Creating real-life, learner-centered classrooms

Faculty participants were grouped according to their majors and worked together to update their course syllabi for the next semester. Their goal: ensure every subject reflects both outcome-based and gender-sensitive education principles.

University President Dr. Apostol also addressed the participants, encouraging them to embody the MinSU values of being mahusay, matino, at mabuti—a mantra that reflects the University's vision that defines an excellent educator.

On Day 2, MinSU professors Dr. Cirile Dominic Horlador and Dr. Pinky Carig facilitated workshops on Course Mapping, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and integrating gender-sensitive and innovative teaching materials.

Through interactive sessions, faculty honed their skills in curriculum design, modern classroom strategies, and promoting gender equity in both teaching and assessments.

More than a regular training, the INSET became a collaborative space where educators reflected, shared insights, and developed new approaches to teaching that truly respect and respond to students’ diverse realities.

This training reaffirms MinSU-CTE’s commitment to developing transformative educators who uphold equity, inclusivity, and a passion for lifelong learning—essential in today’s ever-changing educational landscape.
