Student-athletes from Mindoro State University’s (MinSU) three campuses competed in the Intercampus Sports Olympics on October 7-8, 2026, vying for the opportunity to represent the university at the 2026 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Regional Sports and Cultural Meet (STRASUC) in November 2026.
Athletes from the Victoria (Main), Calapan and Bongabong campuses competed in 13 sporting events, including athletics, basketball, 3x3 basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, sepak takraw, badminton, javelin throw, chess, esports, arnis, billiards and table tennis.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Jerrel S. Reyes, Victoria Campus Executive Director emphasized that athletic excellence requires more than physical strength and technical skills.
“Ang isang atleta ay hindi lang skills at lakas ang kailangan, kailangan din ng utak at puso,” Dr. Reyes said, urging the athletes to use the competition to sharpen their skills, develop themselves and deepen their commitment to sports.
Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, meanwhile, emphasized that sportsmanship and personal conduct are just as important as performance in competition.
“Sports is not about winning but about performing, it’s about sportsmanship and about how you handle yourself,” she said.
She also assured students that the University would gradually improve its sports and student facilities to provide a more conducive environment for learning, training and other campus activities. She reminded the participants that despite representing different campuses, they remain part of one university.
“Kahit iba-ibang campus, lagi tandaan na tayo ay iisang Mindoro State University,” she said.
Mr. Joel Dela Cruz, Sports and Wellness Director, formally opened the competition on October 7, with the games beginning that afternoon.
The winners will represent MinSU at STRASUC 2026, competing against student-athletes from other state universities and colleges in the region.
The university-wide competition forms part of MinSU’s efforts to promote student development through sports while fostering camaraderie and unity among its campuses. (jdtdc)
